The 2012 Silverstrand Dojo International Seminar

posted Jan 26, 2012 4:40 AM by Ray Silverstrand

Get Ready, The 2012 Silverstrand Dojo International Seminar is Almost Here!

Texas Dates: March, 17th and 18th With Texoma Judo and Jujitsu

Lincoln Dates: March 30th – April 9th

            This year’s seminar will be a most welcomed event. Ray Silverstrand Shihan will be providing the Lincoln Nebraska dojos with more than two weeks of personal instruction. This year we will have the traditional seminar weekend classes, but we will also have the pleasure of Shihan Silverstrand instructing our normal weekly scheduled classes! This is going to be a chance for everyone partaking in the seminar to receive personal time and attention from a martial artist with over 40 years of experience in aikido, judo, jujitsu, and karate.

Fees and requirements: This year’s seminar rates will be 65.00 per person and will allow each individual to attend as many classes as they wish. For the duration of the Nebraska seminar Shihan Silverstrand will teach all weekend/weekday classes. This means we will keep our normal weekday class schedule, but only paying seminar participants may partake in these weekend/weekday classes. However, all are free to come and watch, and we are taking donations for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign!

1st Seminar Weekend Schedule

We want to remind everyone that Silverstrand Dojo International is an all-volunteer organization. Each one of the Instructors contributes his or her time with no monetary compensation. The same is true of Shihan Silverstrand. The seminar fee only covers a portion of his ticket cost to the USA, and anyone that has attended any other seminars can attest that 65.00 is not much at all! So, please come and support the dojo and help us give back to you and yours!

Hi Guys

First off happy new years and best wishes for you and your family for 2012! The next news is our January newsletter and our video of the month is up and running!

The January newsletter has a theme of the character development. We truly did not plan it that way but sometimes things just move in a natural direction. You will find many wonderful articles in this particular newsletter dealing with the development of the Spirit and control of the emotions. If you would like to view this newsletter just go to the newsletter section of this site.

The video the month is a review of the video called "samurai" which is a documentary on the life of Miyamoto Masashi. This documentary was made by the History Channel on possibly the greatest swordsman of all times, Miyamoto Masashi. It traces Musashi's life and also takes an in-depth look at his philosophies. The documentary not only is informative but also entertaining. If you would like to view this video just go to the video review section of the site.

Well guys that about covers it! As always best wishes for health and happiness!

Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.
New-made friendships, like new wine,
Age will mellow and refine.
Friendships that have stood the test--
Time and change--are surely best;
Brow may wrinkle, hair grow gray,
Friendship never knows decay.
For 'mid old friends, tried and true,
Once more we our youth renew.
But old friends, alas! may die,
New friends must their place supply.
Cherish friendship in your breast--
New is good, but old is best;
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.

Hi Guys

Well the video of the month for August is now up! The subject of this video is Ms. Cheryl Turner and her wonderful children's tae kwon do class. Ms. Turner truly is a wonderful and beautiful human being. She devotes many hours of each day to the development of the children in our humble little dojo. Her spirit is truly selfless and giving! We should make sure that we all approach our training with this giving attitude that Ms. Turner teaches. Then of course there is a wonderful creators of this video. They are Chris and Colin who spent many hours capturing on film the spirit of our dojo. They should be praised and given much thanks. To view this wonderful video please click on this link.

The May 2011 Newsletter Is Now Out!!!

posted May 4, 2011 12:55 PM by Ray Silverstrand   [ updated May 4, 2011 1:25 PM ]

Hi Guys,
Here you will find Silverstrand Dojo International Martial Arts Review number 17.  We are very excited about this issue because we have some very good articles on philosophy, training, and techniques.  Now that this issue is out, we truly feel that it was a blessing.  This is because for a month the island has experienced very serious internet problems which made the process of constructing the newsletter very slow and difficult.  It just goes to show you, just like training in the martial arts, when it seems like things are very difficult and hopeless, just do your best and have faith.  So a big thank you to you all, as always, for the hard work and support you give.  And a very special thank you to Joellen Friesner for all the wonderful work, patience, and problem solving she so selflessly gave on this edition.

As always,
Your friend,
Ray
